Dream House Organized by Plug In ICA Curated by Anthony Kiendl and Steven Matijcio At the intersection of art, design, and the department store showroom, Plug In will combine commissions, fundraising, and exhibition in the Dream House. Exploring the sometimes surreal topography of the domestic environment, this hybrid project will assemble a series of domestically inspired pieces (from artists across Canada) that could collectively furnish a residential abode. Courting the unexpected to conjure a place where craft and contemporary art co-exist, these objects will be put up for sale at the conclusion of the show. This work will be accompanied by the furniture designs of a series of local designers emerging in the Canadian scene. The ensuing space will push the showroom atmosphere into an uncanny place, where gallery visitors are encouraged to re-envision their private surroundings. |

A Spoken Word Exhibition in conjunction with PERFORMA 2007 The Swiss Institute New York, NY Including Vito Acconci, James Lee Byars, Nick Curris (aka Momus), Karl Holmqvist, Maurizio Nannucci, Yoko Ono, Mai-Thu Perret, Emilio Prini, Tomas Vanek, Lawrence Weiner, and Ian Wilson. Two years ago, PERFORMA established a new biennial for New York City. With its vast array of new performance by visual artists from around the world, it served to contextualize such cutting edge material and at the same time to build an exciting community of artists and audiences, and a strong basis for educational initiatives as well. The biennial underlined the important influence of artists performance in the history of twentieth century art, and its ongoing significance in the early years of the 21st. |
